E-Learning: The Changing Education Scenario

The radical changes in technology have completely revamped the way we see education today. Books are getting replaced by screens and students are learning subjects ranging from Investment, banking to painting, all by sitting at home. E-learning has made it simple, innovative, and engaging to study different courses.

What is E-learning?

In simple terms, E-learning refers to the use of advanced technology in learning. Now students can study online and get their degree right in their mail inboxes. The digitization in the education sector has made it possible to learn anything anywhere at any time. Students no longer need to commute to their colleges or schools to attend their teacher’s lectures. With E-learning, they can do this from home. All that they need is an internet connection.

Other modes of e-learning include electronic learning within the classrooms. Smart classes are a great example of this type of E-learning where students learn a topic through slides presentations, videos, and audio.

Benefits of E-learning

E-learning is a solid solution to many problems existing within our education system. Our education system is somewhat lacking when it comes to addressing the various educational needs of children. E-learning has come out as great support for it.

Customization - Our education system sees every child’s capability through a single lens. They are given the same subjects, similar teaching, and a similar level of content. However, it has failed to understand that every child is different and has different needs. A child may be good in literature but has no interest in mathematics. But due to the one size fits all policy of the education system, students had to study all the subjects. Their personal interests were of not much importance. But with e-learning, this problem has been solved. Now students can choose their own courses and study a combination of various different subjects together in a single course.

Distance - With the system of schools and colleges, the distance was a major issue. Any student living far off from an educational institution has to move out of his city or commute long hours. Though there are distance courses available in some institutions, they lacked the presence of a mentor. E-learning has made it easier for the students as they can now have 24/7 access to online recorded lectures or live classrooms. Students can benefit from it just like real-time learning. And the best part of it is that it is remote.

Engagement - The advanced technology has lead to the gamification of education. Now, students no longer have to attend boring lectures of teachers. They can understand a concept through pictures and videos through e-learning. At the end of each course, students are provided with quizzes and questions which ensure student’s participation and also give them a chance to test their knowledge.

Industrial Training - Earlier, there was a big gap in the education that students used to get in schools and the education that was needed in the job market. Because of this, many students got degrees but no employment skills so they ended up jobless. But now with e-learning students can learn any industrial skill through specialized courses. This is filling the existing knowledge and skills gap between candidates and industries making them more employable.

Technology has penetrated almost all sectors today. It is changing the way we live our lives. With the fast-changing technology, it is important that we also advance ourselves to stay relevant with time. E-learning is the next big thing in the education industry that in the coming future will completely change the outlook of the education system. And it is going to change for the better!
